わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国に分布しています。山地の林内に生え、高さは３０〜７０センチになります。茎は直立し、全体に刺毛がまばらに生えます。葉は長卵形で縁には鋸歯があり、互生します。８月から９月ごろ、上部の葉腋から長い柄のある雌花序をだし、下部の葉腋には雄花序がつきます。葉腋には直径５ミリほどの珠芽がつき、栄養繁殖します。

イラクサ科ムカゴイラクサ属の多年草で、学名は Laportea bulbifera。英名はありません。

"Mukago-irakusa" (Laportea bulbifera) belongs to Urticaceae (the Nettle family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in various parts of Japan, as well as in the Korean Peninsula and China. This herb grows in mountain forests and can reach 30-70 cm in height. The stems are upright and the stinges grow sparsely throughout. The leaves are long-ovate, with serrated edges and alternate. The female inflorescences with long stalks are produced from the upper axils, and male inflorescences are attached to the lower axils from August to September. The axils have propagules with a diameter of about 5 mm and propagate vegetatively.
