"Murasaki-karamatsu" (Thalictrum uchiyamai) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). This herb grows on mountainous areas and can reach 50-60 cm in height. The leaves are 1 to 2 times 3 triternate compound with heart-shaped to ovate leaflets. The panicles are borne on the shoot apex, and many whitish purple florets bloom from June to July. The corolla has no petals, 4 to 5 calyxes, with many stamens and 3 to 5 pistils. The fruits are achene, semi-ovate and with 6 veins.
