南アメリカ原産の帰化植物です。江戸時代末期に観賞用として導入され、現在では各地に帰化しています。６月から８月ごろ、淡紅色の花を咲かせます。種子ができないで地下の鱗茎で増えますが、これは食用にもなります。和名の漢字表記は、全体に酸味があることから。

カタバミ科カタバミ属の多年草で、学名は Oxalis corymbosa。英名は Lilac oxalis。

The Lilac oxalis (Oxalis corymbosa) belongs to Oxalidaceae (Wood sorrel family). It is a perennial herb that is native to South America. This herb was introduced into Japan as an ornamental plants in the last days of Edo Era (1603-1868). Now a days, it is naturalized in various parts places of Japan. The rose-pink flowers come in June through August. It is sterlity, though it spreads by bulbs. The bulbs have an acid taste and edible.
