"Murasaki-nigana" (Lactuca sororia) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This herb grows in mountain forests or forestedges, and can reach 60-120 cm in height. The underneath leaves are pinnatisect and the upper leaves are small lanceolate. The long panicles are borne and the many, magent flower-heads, about 1 cm across bloom descending from June to August.
