The genus Stenogrottis is distributed from South Africa to Tanzania. There are four species in the genus, all of which exist in South Africa. This herb grows on rocks on the forest floor, on tree trunks, and occasionally on the ground. The flowering season is spring or summer. This "Mure-chidori", which is distributed as a wild plant, is an interspecific hybrid between "Stenoglottis fimbriata" and "Stenoglottis longifolia" distributed in eastern South Africa.
