インドからバングラデシュ、マレー半島が原産です。偽茎の高さは２．７メートルほどになり、葉の長さは１．８メートルくらいです。苞は暗いピンク色で、先端が黄色を帯びています。果実は緑黄色で長さ８センチ、直径が２センチくらいしかありません。果実は食べられるますがやや苦く、種子があります。和名では「りんごばしょう（林檎芭蕉）」と呼ばれます。

The pink flowering banana (Musa ornata) belongs to Musaceae (the Banana family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to India, Bangladesh and the Malay Peninsula. The height of the pseudostem is about 2.7 m, and the leaf length is about 1.8 m. The bract is dark pink with a yellowish tip. The fruits are greenish yellow and are only 8 cm long and 2 cm in diameter. Fruit is edible but slightly bitter and has seeds. In the Japanese name, it is called "Ringo-basho".
