The "Munin-tatsunami-so" (Scutellaria longituba) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Chichi-jima and Ani-jima in Japan's Ogasawara Islands. It grows in forests, forest edges, and rocky areas, reaching a height of 15 to 25 cm. The stem has ribs and is covered in short hairs. Leaves are ovate, arranged in decussate pairs, and have wavy serrations along the margins. From March to April, a raceme emerges from the stem apex, bearing numerous labiate flowers. The corolla is white and elongated, with a corolla tube length of 4-5 cm. The fruit is a schizocarp of four mericarps. The aboveground parts die back temporarily in summer, with new shoots emerging in late fall.
