わが国の本州、富士山や箱根・丹沢周辺に分布しています。山地に生え、高さは５０〜１００センチになります。葉は広倒卵形から広楕円形で、粗毛に被われています。５月から６月ごろ、枝先に総状花序をだし、紅紫色の花を２〜６個、下向きに咲かせます。花冠は筒状で、萼片の周りには長い毛が生えます。

ツツジ科ヨウラクツツジ属の落葉低木で、学名は Menziesia multiflora var. purpurea。英名はありません。

"Murasaki-tsurigane-tsutsuji" (Menziesia multiflora var. purpurea) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native to Japan and distributed around Mt. Fuji, Hakone and Tanzawa. This tree grows in mountains and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are broad obovate to broad elliptic and covered with rough hairs. The racemes are borne on the terminal branches and bloom 2-6 magenta flowers descending from May to June. The collora is tubular and the calyx lobes bear long hairs around.
