ムーシュウチュウ (木綉球)

中国の長江以南に分布しています。丘陵から山地に生え、高さは３〜５メートルになります。幼枝は黄白色の星状毛に被われ、老枝では樹皮が黒灰色になります。葉は濃緑色の卵形または楕円形で対生し、縁には細鋸歯があります。４月から６月ごろ、１０〜２５センチほどの半球状の集散花序をつけ、「あじさい（紫陽花）」のような真っ白な花をかせます。東山植物園では、和名がないので中国名の「木綉球」をそのまま使っていました。 |

スイカズラ科ガマズミ属の落葉低木で、学名は Viburnum macrocephalum。英名は Chinese snowball viburnum。 |

The Chinese snowball viburnum (Viburnum macrocephalum) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed southward from the Chang Jiang river of China. This tree grows in hills and mountains, and can reach 3-5 m in height. Barks of young branch are covered with yellowish white stellate hairs, and mature barks are blackish gray. Leaves are dark green,ovate to elliptic, alternate with fine serrate edges. Hydeangea-like pure white flowers bloom on the semiround cymes 10-25 cm in diameter from April to June. |
