The "Nagaba-yabu-sotetsu" (Cyrtomium devexiscapulae) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed from Iwate Prefecture of Honshu southwards to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, China and Vietnam. It grows in mountain forests and on the edges of forests, and is 40 to 80 cm tall. It is similar to "Oni-yabu-sotetsu" (Holly fern), but is distributed more inland than "Oni-yabu-sotetsu". The leaves are pinnate compound leaves, dark green, glossy and leathery with a slight thickness. It has 7 to 10 pairs of pinnae, which are long and narrow, and almost no auricles. Sorus is scattered over the entire surface of the pinna, and the indisum is round with a blackish brown center. This species is a tetraploid with sexual reproduction, and has a chromosome number of n=82. In Taiwanese, it is called "”âjŠÑ眾˜n" and in Chinese, "”âjŠÑO" (pinsan guan zhong).
