The rattail fescue (Vulpia myuros) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an annual or biennial herb that is native to Eupore. It was introduced into Japan in the early Meiji Era (about 140 years old). Nowadays, it is also naturalized in South and North America, South Africa and Australia. The stem is branched from the base, and can reach about 50 cm in height. The leaves are linear, about 1mm across and the edges convolute inside. The spike, about 20 cm long are borne and produce the many spikelets from spring to fall.
