The Curly dock (Rumex crispus) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Buckwheat family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Europe. This herb is introduced into Japan in the days of Meiji Era (1868-1912), and distributed worldwide now. It grows in roadsides and wastelands, can reach 1.5 m in height. Stems are errect. Leaves are oblong with extremely waved edges. From June to September, the spikes with small greenish-white flowers are seen on the terminal stems and axils. Sepals are broad ovate and not serrate. Fruits are green at first and turn red when ripen.
