The curly dock (Rumex crispus) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Buckwheat family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Europe. This herb is introduced into Japan in the days of Meiji Era, and distributed worldwide now. It grows in roadsides and wastelands, can reach 1.5 m in height. Stems are errect. Leaves are oblong with extremely waved edges. From June to September, the spikes with small greenish-white flowers are seen on the terminal stems and axils. Sepals are broad ovate and not serrate. Fruits are green at first and turn red when ripen.
