なんきんはぜ (南京黄櫨)

中国が原産です。高さは１５メートルほどになり、各地に公園樹や街路樹として植栽されています。葉は菱形状卵形で先端が尾状に尖って互生し、秋には真っ赤に紅葉します。７月ごろ、枝先に総状花序をだして小さな黄色い花をいっぱい咲かせます。果実は蒴果で１０月から１１月ごろに裂開し、白い種子がのぞきます。種子は有毒ですが、むかしは蝋や油を採ったそうです。 |

トウダイグサ科シラキ属の落葉高木で、学名は Sapium sebiferum。英名は Chinese tallow tree。 |

The Chinese tallow tree (Sapium sebiferum) belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to China. This tree can reach about 15 m in height and planted widely in parks or streetsides. The leaves are diamond-ovate with long acute tips, alternate and turn into bright red in fall. Small yellow flowers come on the racemes in July. The fruits are capsules, ripen in October, splitting open in Nobemver and come out white seeds. The seeds are poisonous, but in the past they were used to extract wax and oil. |
