The Tapering-leaf basketvine (Aeschynanthus acuminatus) belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed to Iriomote Island in the Nansei Islands of Japan, Taiwan, southern China, Southeast Asia, and the Himalayas. It grows in valleys and along riversides in forested areas. It is semi-vining and grows on trees and rocks. The leaves are lanceolate to elliptic or narrowly oblong, leathery, and opposite. The green to orange tubular flowers bloom near the stem tips. The fruit is a capsule, about 15 cm long and slender, which is the origin of its Japanese name. In Taiwanese, it is called "長果藤".
