アメリカの南西部からメキシコに分布しています。砂地や石灰岩地に生え、高さは１０〜３０センチになります。茎は基部から数個に分枝して、弓なりに広がります。茎や葉は剛毛で被われています。葉は線状長楕円形で互生します。４月から７月ごろ、ピンク色から淡い紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠は漏斗形またはベル形で、直径１２ミリほど、黄色い咽があります。

The Sand bells (Nama hispidum) belongs to Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is an annual herb that is distributed from the southwestern United States to Mexico. It grows in sandy or limestone soil and is 10 to 30 cm tall. The stem branches off from the base into several stems that spread out in an arched shape. The stem and leaves are covered in bristles. The leaves are linear-oblong and alternate. From April to July, it produces pink to pale purple flowers. The corolla is funnel-shaped or bell-shaped, about 12 mm in diameter, and has a yellow throat.
