"Namiki-so" (Scutellaria strigillosa) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed all over Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China, the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin. This herb grows on sandy shores and grasslands and can reach 10-40 cm in height. The leaves are oblong and arranged in alternate with serrated edges and short soft hairs on the surfaces. The bluish-purple labiate flowers bloom at the axils from June to September. The upper lips are inflated like a helmet, and the lower lips are divided into three lobes.
