The Ford's clubmoss (Huperzia fordii) belongs to the family Lycopodiaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed across the Kii Peninsula on Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu to the south, the Ryukyu Islands, the Ogasawara Islands in Japan, as well as Taiwan, southern China, the Indochina Peninsula and the Himalayas. It grows epiphytically on damp rocks in mountainous areas and on moss-covered tree trunks, reaching a length of 20 to 40 cm. The stem forks at the base, and the branches fork several times; the longer ones hang down. The leaves are broadly lanceolate to oblong and arranged in six rows along the stem. Spore sacs are found in the leaf axils of the term
