なんきんわた (南京棉) [Index] [Back] 中国で１２世紀中頃に品種改良された、「きだちわた（Gossypium arboreum）」の一年生種です。「きだちわた（木立棉）」はインド原産で、多年生木本です。７月から９月ごろ、葉腋に咽が暗赤色の淡い黄色の花を咲かせます。果実は�刮ﾊで、熟すと裂開します。綿毛は淡褐色で短く、詰め綿や脱脂綿、布団綿などに利用されます。種子はまた、綿実油の原料として使われます。別名で、「ちゃめん（茶棉）」とも呼ばれます。 アオイ科ワタ属の一年草で、学名は Gossypium nanking。英名は China cotton、Nankeen。 The China cotton (Gossypium nanking) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is an annual herb that is an improved variety of Tree cotton, and it was made improvements by Chinese in the middle of 12th century. "Tree cotton" (Gossypium arboreum) is a perennial arbor and native to India. The pale yellow flowers with dark red throats bloom in the axils from July to September. The fruits are capsules and split open when mature. The fluffs are pale brown, short, and used as a filling cotton, absorbent cotton or futon cotton.
