The China cotton (Gossypium nanking) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is an annual herb that is an improved variety of Tree cotton, and it was made improvements by Chinese in the middle of 12th century. "Tree cotton" (Gossypium arboreum) is a perennial arbor and native to India. The pale yellow flowers with dark red throats bloom in the axils from July to September. The fruits are capsules and split open when mature. The fluffs are pale brown, short, and used as a filling cotton, absorbent cotton or futon cotton. The seeds are also used as a ingredient of cottonseed oil.
