インドやスリランカ、ビルマが原産です。モンスーン地帯に生え、高さは１０〜２０メートルになります。葉は偶数羽状複葉で、卵形から卵状長楕円形の小葉は４〜８対あります。葉腋から大きな総状花序を下垂させ、芳香のある鮮やかな黄色い花を咲かせます。別名で「ゴールデンシャワー」とも呼ばれます。タイの国花です。ちなみに「新宿御苑」での和名は、「ながみセンナ（長実センナ）」。

ジャケツイバラ科カワラケツケイ属の落葉高木で、学名は Cassia fistula (syn. Cassia excelsa)。英名は Golden shower。

Golden shower (Cassia fistula) belongs to the Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to India, Sri Lanka and Burma. This tree grows in the monsoon zone and is 10-20 m high. The leaves are pari-pinnate compound with 4-8 pairs of ovate to ovate-oblong leaflets. It droops a large inflorescence from the axillary and produces fragrant, bright yellow flowers. It is also called "Golden shower". It is a national flower of Thailand.
