台湾の固有種です。活発に成長し、高さは最大４メートルになります。小さい枝に長い棘を備えていることが特徴です。果実はオレンジの大きさで、酸っぱい酸味と苦い味のため、ふつうは生で食べられませんが、レモンの代用品として使用されることもあります。台湾華語では「酸橙」と呼ばれます。

ミカン科ミカン属の常緑低木で、学名は Citrus taiwanica。英名は Nansho Daidai sour orange。

The Nansho Daidai sour orange (Citrus taiwanica) belongs to Rutaceae (the Citrus family). It is a small evergree tree that is endemic to Taiwan. This tree grows vigorously and up to 4 m in height. It features small branches with long spines. The fruit are orange-sized, usually not eaten fresh because of their acid-sour and bitter taste but are sometimes used as a lemon substitute. It is called "酸橙" in Taiwanese Chinese.
