The Large-leaved linden (Tilia platyphyllos) belongs to the Tiliaceae (the Linden family). It is a tall deciduos tree that is distributed from central to southern Europe. It mainly grows in forests on limestone soil, and grows to a height of 35 to 40 m. The bark is reddish brown on young trees, and becomes dark gray with cracks as it grows. The leaves are ovate to cordate in shape, with sharp serrations on the edges, and the underside is covered in white wooly hair. In fall, the leaves turn yellow-green to yellow. From June to July, small, fragrant, yellowish-white flowers bloom in drooping cymes. The bract leaves are oblong to obovate and white-green in color. The fruit is a small cream-colored drupe.
