わが国の本州から四国、九州にかけて分布しています。湿り気のある林下に生え、高さは２０〜４０センチになります。偽球茎は球状になり、長楕円形の葉は束生します。７月から８月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして、淡い紅紫色の花を咲かせます。和名は、夏に花を咲かせることから。

ラン科エビネ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Calanthe reflexa。英名は Hardy terrestrial orchid。

The hardy terrestrial orchid (Calanthe reflexa) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial evergreen herb that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This herb grows under moist forests and can reach 20-40 cm in height. Pseudobulbs become spherical and oblong leaves bundle. The flower stalks are extended and pale magenta flowers come in bloom from July to August. The Japanese common name (Natsu-ebine) is because it blooms in summer.
