The Silver lacevine (Fallopia baldschuanica) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is a deciduous woody vine that is distributed in western China and the Himalayas. This vine grows extremely vigorously, is resistant to the cold, and can reach over 15 m in length. The leaves are heart-shaped, thin and pointed. The fragrant white flowers bloom on the spikes from summer to fall. Its Japanese name "Natsuyuki-kazura" comes from the fact that it looks like snow piled up when seen from a distance. In Chinese, it is called "木藤首烏" (mu teng shou wu).
