中国が原産の「もも（桃）」の変種です。少雨で日当たりの良いところを好み、高さは６メートルほどになります。４月ごろ、葉の展開前に淡紅色の花を咲かせます。果実は核果で、７月から８月ごろ赤く熟します。果皮の表面は無毛で光沢があり、果肉は黄色く甘みや酸味が強いのが特徴です。和名では「つばいもも（椿桃）」と呼ばれますが、果実が「つばき」に似ていることからでしょうか。中国語では「油桃（you tao）」と呼ばれます。写真中１〜２・下は、おそらく「アルバ（cv. Alba）」と呼ばれる品種。

バラ科サクラ属の落葉小高木で、学名は Prunus persica var. nectarina（syn. Prunus persica var. nucipersica、Amygdalus persica var. nectarina）。英名は Nectarine。

The Nectarine (Prunus persica var. nectarina) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a semi-tall deciduous tree that is a variant of the "peach", which is native to China. It prefers sunny areas with little rainfall and grows up to 6 m tall. The fruit is a kernel, which ripens to a reddish color from July to August. The surface of the rind is hairless and shiny, and the yellow flesh is characterized by its sweetness and acidity. In Japanese, it is called "Tsubai-momo", perhaps because the fruit resembles a "tsubaki" (camellia). In Chinese, it is called "油桃" (you tao). The 2nd-3rd and bottom photos are probably the variety called 'Alba'.
