わが国の各地をはじめ、朝鮮半島や中国の中部・東北部それにウスリー地方、サハリンに分布しています。日当たりのよい草地に生え、高さは１０〜４０センチになります。根生葉は広線形で数個が斜上します。また茎には披針形の鱗片葉がつきます。４月から１０月ごろ、螺旋状にねじれた穂状花序をだし、ピンク色から紅紫色の花を横向きに咲かせます。まれに白花もあり「しろばなもじずり（白花文字摺）」と呼ばれます。また螺旋の巻き方には左巻きだけではなく、右巻きのものもあります。別名で「もじずり（捩摺）」とも呼ばれます。中国語では「綬草（shou cao）」と呼ばれます。 |

The Lady's tresses (Spiranthes sinensis var. amoena) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed throughout Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, central and northeastern China, Ussuri and Sakhalin. This herb grows in sunny grasslands and can reach 10-40 cm in height. The basal leaves are broad-linear and scendent. The cauline leaves are small lanceolate and scale-like. The spiral spikes are borne and the pink to magenta flowers bloom from April to October. Rarely, white flowers are also available and are called "Shirobana-mojizuri". In addition, spirals are not only left-handed, but also right-handed. In Chinese, it is called "綬草" (shou cao). |
