ねこのひげ (猫の髭)

インドから東南アジア、オーストラリアに広く分布しています。茎は赤紫色で４稜があり、高さは５０〜１００センチほどになります。葉は卵形から楕円形で、対生します。春から秋にかけて、茎の先の総状花序に、白色または淡いピンク色の花を咲かせます。名前は、長く伸びる雄しべが、ネコのひげのように見えることから。また「クミスクチン」と呼ばれる生薬となり、利尿剤や血圧降下剤に利用されます。 |

シソ科オルトシフォン属の多年草で、学名は Orthosiphon aristatus。英名は Cat's whiskers。 |

The cat's whiskers (Orthosiphon aristatus) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native from India to Southeast Asia and Australia. The stem is reddish-purple and quadrangular. This herb can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are ovate to elliptic, and arrnaged in opposite. The white or pale pink flowers bloom in the terminal racemes from spring to fall. The long stames resemble to cat's whiskers. This herb is called Kumis kuting, and used as a herbal medicine for diuretic agent or hypotensive agent. |
