わが国の本州、関東地方以西から四国・九州、それに朝鮮半島や中国、台湾、インドシナ半島に分布しています。海岸の砂地に生え、茎はよく分枝して地面を這い、高さは６０センチほどになります。葉は長楕円形で対生し、縁にはまばらに鋸歯があります。表面には短い伏毛があり、ざらつきます。７月から１０月ごろ、茎頂に黄色い頭花を咲かせます。別名で「はまぐるま（浜車）」とも呼ばれます。

キク科ハマグルマ属の多年草で、学名は Wedelia prostrata。英名は Beach wedelia。

The beach wedelia (Wedelia prostrata) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed westward from Kanto district of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China, Taiwan and the Indochina Peninsula. This herb grows in sandy soils on beaches and the stems are much branched, creeping on the ground and can reach about 60 cm in height. The leaves are oblong and opposite with coarse toothed edges. They have short appressed hairs on the surface and euralia-like textured. The yellow flower heads are borne on the stem apices from July to October.
