The baby blue eyes and fivespot (Nemophila maculata) belongs to Hydrophyllaceae (the Waterleaf family). It is an annual herb that is endemic to California in the United States. This herb grows in valley grassland, foothill woodland, and pine and fir forest, and it can reach 10-25 cm in height. The leaves are divided into several smooth or toothed lobes. The bowl-shaped, about 2.5 cm across, five-petaled flowers boom in early spring to summer. They are white with veins and dots. The lobe tips are purple-spotted.
