Nematanthus monanthos belongs to Gesneriaceae (the African violet family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to Brazil. This herb grows in Atlantic forest in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo States, is semi erect, up to 80 cm long. It is an epiphyte, on tree trunks, or on the rocks. The feature is that the back side of the leaf is reddish. The flowers are dark pink, 3-4 cm in diameter and covered with fine hair.
