The "Nemuro-shiogama" (Pedicularis schistostegia) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Hokkaido, the Nemuro region, and Rebun Island in Japan, as well as the Southern Kuril Islands, Sakhalin, and the Primorye region. It grows in grasslands near the sea and reaches a height of 15 to 30 cm. The stems and leaf stalks are densely covered with soft hairs. The leaves are bipinnate compound. From June to July, pale yellow to white flowers bloom at the top of the stems. The flowers bloom from the bottom, and when the upper flowers open, the lower petals disappear.
