The Nepenthes merrilliana belongs to Nepenthaceae (the Nepenthes family). It is a perrenial evergreen herb that is distributed in Mindanao, Philippines. It grows in lowlands near the coast. The stems crawl on the ground or are entangled in trees, and are 3 to 4 m long. The leaves are large, oblong, and usually dark green, but turn dark red when exposed to sunlight. The pitcher is one of the largest in the genus Nepenthes and is 20 to 30 cm long. It is usually green, but can turn dark red.
