ヨーロッパからアジア、北アフリカの温帯地域に分布しています。荒れ地や砂礫地などに生え、高さは８０〜１２０センチになります。茎は真っ直ぐ伸び、葉は２回から３回羽状複葉で、銀白色の長い毛が生えます。初夏から初秋にかけて、淡黄色の頭花を咲かせます。頭花は下向きにつきます。消化不良や機能低下に効く薬草として、使用されてきています。別名で「ワームウッド」とも呼ばれます。

The wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the temperate regions of Europe, Asia and northen Africa. This herb grows in waste lands, rocks and screes and can reach 80-120 cm in height. The stems are straight and the leaves are bipinnate to tripinnate compound with long silvery-white hairs. The pale yellow flower-heads come from early summer to early fall. The flower-heads are bent-down. This herb has been used as a medicinal herb for weak and under-active digestion.
