The Carrot (Daucus carota ssp. sativus) belong to Apiaceae (the Carrot family). It is a biennial herb that is native to Afghanistan of Central Asia. This herb was breeded in Holland for 15th century. It was introduced into Japan in 16th century. It can reach about 1 m in height, and the tuberous root is swollen. The leaves are pinnate compound with long petioles. The compond umbels are borne in next year's summer and blooms small white flowers. The Western species are mainly cultivated in Japan, though the Eastern species "Kintoki" are barely cultivated in Kansai and Shikoku district. The 6th to 9th photos were taken at a seed production farm.
