においばんまつり (匂い蕃茉莉)

ブラジル南部からパラグアイ、アルゼンチンにかけて分布しています。わが国へは明治時代の終わりに渡来しました。よく分枝して、高さは３．６メートルほどになります。葉は楕円形で対生し、先端が尖ります。春から夏にかけて、芳香のある花を咲かせます。咲き始めは紫色ですが、しだいに藤色、そして白色へと変化します。 |

ナス科ブルンフェルシア属の常緑低木で、学名は Brunfelsia australis（syn. Brunfelsia latifolia）。英名は Yesterday-Today-and-Tomorrow、Kiss-me-quick。 |

The yesterday-Today-and-Tomorrow (Brunfelsia australis) belongs to Solanaceae (the Nightshade family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed in southern Brazil to Paraguay and Argentine. This tree was introduced into Japan in the late days of Meiji Era (about 90 years ago). It is much branched and can reach about 3.6 m in height. The leaves are elliptic, opposite with acute tips. Fragrant flowers come in spring to summer. The flower color is purple when comming in bloom, it will turn in lilac to white. |
