わが国の北海道から本州の主に日本海側、それに四国に分布しています。山地の林縁や道ばたに生え、高さは５〜１５センチになります。茎は直立し、やや縮れた毛が散生します。葉は倒卵形から長倒卵形で、縁に浅い鋸歯があり、葉脈は鮮やかに紫色になります。葉の裏は紫色を帯びます。４月から５月ごろ、葉腋に、淡い紫色から淡い紅紫色の唇形花を２〜６個咲かせます。上唇弁は長さ２〜３ミリ、２裂して直立し、下唇弁は大きくて３裂します。

シソ科キランソウ属の多年草で、学名は Ajuga yezoensis。英名はありません。

"Nishiki-goromo" (Ajuga yezoensis) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Hokkaido to Honshu, mainly on the Sea of Japan side, and Shikoku in Japan. This herb grows on forest edges and roadsides in the mountains and can reach 5 to 15 cm in height. The stems are upright and have slightly curly hairs scattered around. The leaves are obovate to long obovate, with shallow serrations on the edges and bright purple veins. The back of the leaf is tinged with purple. From April to May, 2 to 6 pale purple to pale magenta lip-shaped flowers bloom on the axils. The upper lip is 2-3 mm long and splits into two to stand upright, and the lower lip is large and splits into three.
