わが国の本州、兵庫県以西の瀬戸内沿岸と四国の太平洋岸、九州の瀬戸内・太平洋岸に分布しています。海岸沿いの傾斜地に生え、高さは６０〜９０センチになります。葉は広卵形で５中裂します。表面は緑色でわずかに毛が生え、裏面には伏毛が密生して灰白色になります。１０月から１２月ごろ、白い舌状花の頭花を咲かせます。兵庫県の県花です。

キク科キク属の多年草で、学名は Dendranthema occidentali-japonense。英名はありません。

"Noji-giku" (Dendranthema occidentali-japonense) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed to the Setouchi coast of Hyogo prefecture west to Honshu, the Pacific coast of Shikoku, and the Setouchi and Pacific coasts of Kyushu in Japan. This herb grows on slopes along the coast and can reach 60-90 cm in height. The leaves are broad-ovate and split into five. The front surface is green with slight hair growth, and the back surface is densely covered with downy hair and becomes grayish white. The flower-heads with white ray flowers come in October to December. It is a prefectural flower of Hyogo prefecture.
