The "Noji-sumire" (Viola yedoensis) belongs to Violaceae (the Viola family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that distributed from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan, the southern Korean Peninsula and central China. This herb grows on sunny roadsides, fields and can reach about 10 cm in height. It has fully whitish short hairs, and the leaves are elliptic-lanceolate with petioles that has scarcely any wings. The pale purple to pale magenta flowers come in March to April. There is usually no hair at the base of the lateral petals. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "短毛菫菜" and "紫花地丁" (zi hua di ding) in Chinese.
