アメリカの中南部と南東部に分布しています。公園や道端などに生え、高さは４０センチ以上になります。長さ３０センチ以上になる狭い葉を、１〜４個だします。春、散形花序に白い花を咲かせます。花には６個の花披片があり、ふつうそれぞれに濃い赤色の中脈があります。これには、本当のニンニクやタマネギのようなタマネギ臭がありません。

ユリ科ステゴビル属の常緑多年草で、学名は Nothoscordum bivalve。英名は Crowpoison、False garlic。

The crowpoison (Nothoscordum bivalve) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the southcentral and southeastern United States. This herb grows in parks and on roadsides, and it can reach up to 40 cm in height. It produces 1-4 narrow leaves up to 30 cm long. The white flowers bloom in the umbel in spring. The flower has 6 tepals, each of which usually has a dark reddish midvein. It does not have the oniony-smell of true garlics and onions.
