Annual gypsophila (Gypsophila muralis) belongs to the Caryophyllaceae (the Carnation family). It is an annual herb that is native to much of Europe. This herb grows on sandy places and up to a height of 5-25 cm. The stem is very slender and much branched. The leaves are linear, 5-25 mm long and glaucous. The flowers are tiny, 4 mm in diameter, rosy and red-veined, and bloom from June to September. The fruits are capsules, which are ovate or ellipsoid, inside are snail-shaped seeds.
