The Japanese panicgrass (Panicum bisulcatum) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an annual herb that is distributed all over Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, China and India. This grass grows on roadsides and forest edges in the mountains, and is about 1 meter in height. The stem is hollow and branches at the bottom to stand upright. The leaves are long narrow lanceolate and alternate. The large panicles are borne on the shoot apices and green spikelets are attached to the tips of the small branches from July to October. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "糠稷" and in Chinese "糠稷" (kang ji).
