The Sticky daisy (Adenostemma lavenia) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed westward from the Kanto district of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, southern Asia, and Australia. This herb grows in marshes or at water’s edges and can reach 30-100 cm in height. The leaves are ovate to ovate-oblong and opposite with long petioles and obtuse toothed edges. The small white flower-heads are borne on the much-branched stems from September to November. The bracts are hemispherical and the phyllaries are recurved after blooming. (edit by Greg Brockelbank)
The Japanese name comes from the fact that the leaves are similar in texture to "daikon" and grow in "numa" (swamps). In Taiwanese, it is called "下田菊", and in Chinese, it is called "下田菊" (xia tian ju).
