The "Numa-toranoo" (Lysimachia fortunei) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan , as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula and China. This herb grows on the shores of wetlands and ponds in the mountains and can reach 40-70 cm in height. The rhizomes are stretched and spread to form a community. The leaves are oblong, soft and alternate. The racemes are borne on the shoot apex and small white flowers come in bloom from July to August. The feature is that the flower spikes do not hang down like "Gooseneck loosestrife". In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "星宿菜", and"紅根草" (hong gen cao) in Chinese.
