南アフリカのケープ地方からナマクワランドに分布しています。葉は卵形で２個あり、明るい緑色をしています。表面にはくぼんだ縦の葉脈があります。花茎を伸ばして、小さな白い壺形の花を咲かせます。花冠の口元はえび茶色です。ラケナリア属を現地では「ヴィオールトジー（Viooltjie）」と総称していますが、これは茎をこすりあわせるとバイオリンに似た音が出ることに因むそうです。

ユリ科ラケナリア属の多年草で、学名は Lachenalia carnosa。英名はありません。

The Lachenalia carnosa belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the Cape region of South Africa to Namaqualand. It has two, ovate and bright green leaves. There are hollow vertical veins on the surface. The flower stalk is extended and small white pot-shaped flowers come in bloom. The mouth of the corolla is maroon. The genus Lachenalia is commonly referred to locally as "Viooltjie" because it produces a violin-like sound when the stems are rubbed together.
