The Golden vygie (Lampranthus aureus) belongs to Aizoaceae (the Ice plant family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the Western Cape province of South Africa. It grows in dry subtropical biomes and is 40-50 cm tall. The stems are dark brown, erect or creeping on the ground. The leaves are gray-green, alternate, three-ribbed to cylindrical, and bloom from June to September with bright orange to yellow flowers. The fruit is a woody capsule. Various cultivars have been produced.
