小アジアから南西アジアに分布しています。高さは60センチほどになり、全体に柔らかな毛で被われます。葉は卵形で対生します。春に銀色の花茎を伸ばし、小さな赤紫色の花を咲かせます。名前は、子山羊のような葉のかたちから。別名で「わたちょろぎ(綿草石蚕)」とも呼ばれます。 
シソ科イヌゴマ属の多年草で、学名は Stachys bysantina。英名は Lamb's ears。 
The Lamb's ears (Stachys bysantina) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Asia Minor and southwestern Asia. This herb can reach about 60 cm in height and covered with soft hairs. The leaves are ovate and opposite. The silvery flowering stalks are borne and bloom small magenta flowers in spring. The common name derives from the leaf-shape resembling lamb's ear.
