Lemon-scented tea-tree (Leptspermum petersonii) belongs to Myrtaceae (the Myrtle family). It is an evergreen shrub or a small tree that is native to eastern Australia and North Island of New Zealand. This shrub grows near sclerophyll forests or rainforests, and up to 5 m in height. The leaves are narrow-elliptic to lanceolate, usually 20-40 mm long, often strongly lemon-scented. The flowers are white, new growth tinged with red or purple, followed by woody capsules. The leaves are used as a medicine and a tea and to extract an essential oil.
