アメリカの中南部、ミズーリ・カンザス州からテキサス・ルイジアナ州に分布しています。痩せた石灰岩地に生え、高さは３０〜７５センチになります。葉は長さ５〜１０センチの線形で、茎の周りに輪生状につきます。葉の表面に小さな斑点があることもあります。８月から１０月ごろ、茎頂に長い穂状の花序をだし、紫色の頭花を咲かせます。総苞は卵形から倒卵形です。果実は痩果で、羽毛状の冠毛があります。

キク科リアトリス属の多年草で、学名は Liatris mucronata。英名は Cusp blazing star、Gay-feather。

The Cusp blazing star (Liatris mucronata) belongs to the Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Missouri-Kansas to Texas-Louisiana in the middle and south of the United States. This herb grows on barren limestone soils and is 30-75 cm high. The leaves are linear with a length of 5-10 cm, and rotate around the stem. There may be small spots on the leaf surface. The long spikes appear on the top of the stem, and purple flower heads bloom from August to October. The bracts are ovate to obovate. The fruits are achenes with a pappus of feathery hairs.
