The Berlandier's yellow flax (Linum berlandieri) belongs to Linaceae (the Flax family). It is an annual herb that is native to Texas and the southern Great Plains in the United States. This herb grows in dry, rocky or gravelly areas, and up to a height of 30 cm. The stems are rigid, erect, and branch freely, mostly above the middle. The leaves are linear to linear-lanceolate, up to 2.5 cm long, grayish green and arranged in alternate. The five petaled, up to 3 cm across flowers bloom from March to September. They are mostly orange-yellow, becoming orange-red towards the base, with lengthwise darker color veins. They are up to 3 cm in diameter. The fruit is broadly ovate to triangular-ovate capsule.
