スイカズラ科リンネソウ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Linnaea borealis。英名は Twinflower。
The twinflower (Linnaea borealis) belongs to Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native from Chubu district of Honshu to Hakkaido in Japan, as well as the northern parts of Northern Hemisphere. This herb grows in subalpine to alpine woods or forest edges, and its stems sprawl on the ground. The leaves are broad elliptic with short petioles. The twin pale pink flowers bloom in the long peduncles from July to August. The Japanese name is derived from Carolus Linnaeus, the father of taxonomy.
