The White root (Lobelia purpurascens) belongs to Campanulaceae (the Bellflower family). It is a perennial that is native to eastern Australia. This plant grows mostly in shady, moist situations in woodland and grasslands, and usually less than 12 cm high. The stems are ascending or more or less prostrate, usually 30 cm long. The leaves are elliptic to ovate, arranged alternately, with toothed margins. The mauve-pink, bluish or white flowers are borne in leaf axils, and bloom November to May.
